They were married in Olmsted Township on June 6, 1847. Dorcas Loretta was born the next year, before July 5, 1848, Ohio. Charlina Lermira was born in Ohio, , before July 5, 1852. Alta Maria was born in Ohio, December of 1854. (Lisa and Niki's great great grand mother) On July 5th, 1860, the census shows the family living in Olmsted. Charles was working as a farmer. The value of real estate was $200 and personal estate was $30. Those listed on the same page had real estate average of $1,160 and Personal estate of $168. All three children were in school. Both Charles and Lucy could read and write. Phineas Strong, the first male, was born was born in 1861. The 1870 census of June 6 shows the whole family living at home in Olmsed Township. He was working as a farmer, and she was at home. The two older daughters, Dorcas and Charlina, were school teachers. Their real estate was $3,000 and personal estate was $400. Martin (80) & Sophia (73) Trowns were living with the family. Sophia was blind. Dorcas married Luther Madison Hall in 1874. Charlina married Willis Vine Session in 1872. Alta married James William Perkins on May 5, 1879. The 1880 census of June 6 shows Phineas at home. Charles working as a farmer, and Lucy keeping house. A 1882 platt map of Olmsted Township shows that there were three properties. First was 10 acres with a house deeded to Lucy J. It was on current Fitch Road, North of Cooke Road, about where Greenbrooke Drive is, West side. A second 34 acres deeded to C. L. was attached to the back of the first property. The third was 32.27 acres on Fitch Road, North side of the railroad tracks. Phineas married Nellie McCarty in 1885. Charles died on July 7, 1899 in Olmsted Township. On the 1900 census Lucy used her middle name, Jane. There was a mortgage on the farm. On the 1910 census Lucy was back to using Lucy J. living on Fitch Road. Living with her was William and Alta Perkins, with their two children Martha and Velda. The mortgage had been paid off. Lucy died February 7, 1920 in Dover Township. On the 1920 census dated February 16, 1920, Lucy, 93, was living with her grand children, Lester W. & Martha P. Youtzy on Center Ridge Road in Dover Township. Also there was her daughter Alta. Narrative - Perkins, James William & Underhill, Alta Maria family.
James William Perkins born in Ohio, Dec., 1856 to James W. Perkins and Ann Bryan. Grew up in Ridgeville and later Olmsted Falls. Alta Maria Underhill born in Ohio, 1854 to Charles Underhill and Lucy Stearns. Grew up on a farm on Fitch Road in Olmsted Township.
1879: James, 22 & Alta, 24 were married about June 1879. Both of James' parents died shortly after their marriage.
1880s: In June of 1880 they were living on Elyria Street in Olmsted Falls Village with 4 acres. He was working as a farm laborer and she was keeping house. Charles Ray was born the next year, August 30, 1880 in Olmsted Falls. Then came Roy James in March of 1883 and Martha in April 1885, both born in Olmsted Falls.
1890s: Velda Mae was born April 22, 1892 in Olmsted Falls. In 1895, along the back of the property, the tracks for Cleveland & Elyria Electric Railroad (interurban) were built. There is some question about C. Ray's actual birth name. I have been to that
1900's: In June 1900 the family was still living on Elyria Street, James had his name listed as William. He had been working, like his father, as a Stone Mason, but had been out of work for 3 months. Son Charles, age 20, had his name listed as Ray and was working as a Mills Peddler. C. Ray married Mae Hessert in March of 1904. Roy married Pearl Dailey in December of 1909.
1910's: In March, 1910 the family was living with Alta's mother, Lucy Underhill in Olmsted Township on Fitch(?) Road. James (William) was working as a farmer. Both Alta and Martha were working as a private nurse. Velda had no listed occupation, probably just out of school. The platt map of 1812 shows them still living on Elyria Street, but the house being in a different location. Martha married Lester McClellan Youtzy on December 24, 1914. James died in 1915.
